ORDNANCE NO. 1439
VILLAGE OF BARTONVILLE , ILLINOIS
ORDNANCE PROVIDING FOR LATERAL
TRANSFER POLICE OFFICER HIRING
WHEREAS, the Village of Bartonville hires police officers through its Board of Fire and Police Commissioners pursuant to Section 10-2.1-1 et. seq. of the Illinois Municipal Code (65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-1 et seq.); and
WHEREAS, the Village is a home rule unit pursuant to Section 6 of Article VII of the Constitution of the State of Illinois and, as such, has the authority to modify the provisions of the Illinois Municipal Code with respect to its hiring of police officers; and
WHEREAS, the Village Board of Trustees has determined that it is in the best interests of the Village and its citizens that the hiring of police officers by the Village take place as set forth in this ordinance;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDANED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF BARTONVILLE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: This repeals Ordinance 1383 which was passed on June 10, 2004.
Section 2: The Village of Bartonville Board of Fire and Police Commissioners shall have the authority to hire lateral transfer applicants (as defined below) without regard to the eligibility list maintained for police officer applicants, and further shall have the authority to exempt lateral transfer applicants from any testmg requirements.
Section 3: "Lateral Tranfer Applicant" shall mean an applicant who has completed the Basic Training Course for full time or part time officers as provided by the Illinois Governmental Law Enforcement Officers Training Board.
Section 4: This Ordinance shall take effect and be in full force from and after its passage and publication as provided by law.
